8th Grade Makes Bread with Dimmick FIT Program

As a part of the Dimmick FIT program, we like to provide multiple opportunities for our Jr. High students to prepare healthy snacks and meals. Recently our 8th graders made loaves of whole wheat bread in the Dimmick kitchen. Students measured dry ingredients, added wet ingredients, mixed and even kneaded their dough to create a delicious loaf of bread. Some of the students even helped clean the dishes and working areas. This lesson was also unique because we also had Ms. Kelly join us to each the kids about the chemical reactions that were taking place due to the yeast, sugar and warm water the students used in the bread. The next day, the entire student body had the opportunity to sample the bread during their lunch time. All of the students did an excellent job and we look forward to our next cooking experience.
